This site explains taxes, housing costs and city services to people in Toronto and Ontario. Below is how the content is produced and corrected, so you know what to expect from it.
Who the site is for
The readers in mind are residents who want to understand a rule, estimate a cost or prepare for a decision. It isn’t written for professionals, and it doesn’t replace them. Nothing here is tax, legal or financial advice.
Sources first
Each factual claim rests on a primary source: a law, a regulation, a government web page, a rate schedule or a Council report. The source is named on the page. When official pages disagree, or one can’t be reached, we say so and leave the figure out until it is confirmed.
Plain language
Sentences stay short, and terms are defined the first time they appear. Examples use realistic numbers and show the arithmetic. Claims about how a rule works in practice are avoided when they can’t be supported.
No invented experience
Personal stories, customer results, quotes and statistics are never made up. A page that describes a process describes it from the official rules. Older posts that fell short of this standard were merged into guides that meet it, and their old addresses now redirect.
How tools are used
Drafts may be prepared with software assistance. Before a page goes live, every figure is checked against its source, and the calculations are tested against official tables or worked examples. The site owner is responsible for what is published.
Advertising and links
Advertising and sponsored links change no calculation, no figure and no choice of source. External links go to official or reference pages. They are there for you to read, not to sell you anything.
Updates and corrections
Pages show the date they were last reviewed, and a change in a rate or rule means an update. Found an error? Contact us through the contact page with the page, the figure and the source. A report is checked against the source, confirmed mistakes are corrected and the review date changes.
Independence
