What the site owner does
The site owner chooses the topics, gathers the official sources, writes the text and builds the calculators. Each calculator is tested against official examples before it goes live. Every page carries a review date.
What the owner is not
Maksim is not a chartered professional accountant, a lawyer, a mortgage broker or a financial adviser, and gives no personal advice. Is your situation complex, or does a lot of money depend on the answer? Talk to a licensed professional.
Checking the work
The primary source gets read, not a summary of it. Formulas are tested against tables from the CRA, the Government of Ontario, Justice Canada and the City of Toronto. When two sources disagree, the figure stays out until it can be confirmed. The methodology page and editorial policy explain the process.
Why the site exists
City fees, tax rules and benefits change every year, and the official pages can be hard to read. A calculator that shows its inputs, sources and steps makes those rules easier to understand and to question.
