Since September 1, 2026, the TTC charges nothing after 47 paid trips in a calendar month. For an adult paying $3.30 a trip, that caps the month at $155.10. A rider who takes 52 trips pays for 47 of them and rides 5 free, for a yearly cost of $1,861.20.
How the cap works
The TTC counts paid trips in a calendar month for adult, youth, senior and Fair Pass riders who pay with PRESTO, a mobile wallet or a tap card. Trip 47 is the last one you pay for. The rest of the month is free, and the count starts over on the first day of the next month.
Fares and monthly caps
A PRESTO adult fare is $3.30. Youth aged 13 to 19 pay $2.35, seniors pay $2.25 and Fair Pass holders pay $2.10. Multiply any of those by 47 and you get the monthly maximum: $155.10 for an adult, $110.45 for a youth, $105.75 for a senior and $98.70 for a Fair Pass rider.
A cash fare is $3.35 but does not count toward the cap. And if you ride fewer than 47 times, you pay per trip.
What counts as a trip
Tapping starts a two-hour transfer window. A ride with a transfer inside those two hours is one trip. Tap every time you board. The calculator counts what you enter, so enter paid trips, not stops.
Monthly passes are gone
Most TTC monthly passes ended on August 31, 2026. The Adult 12-Month Pass and the post-secondary student monthly pass are still sold. If you are thinking of buying one, set its price against the cap first.
Reading the table
The table lists the monthly cost and the average price per trip at different trip counts. That average drops once you pass 47. Heavy riders save the most, while riders near 47 trips a month get real value from the cap too.
A commuter’s month
Someone who rides twice a day, 22 days a month, takes 44 trips. At $3.30 that costs $145.20, just under the cap. Add a few weekend trips and the cap kicks in at $155.10. Below it there is no gain, so a small change matters near 47.
Planning around the cap
Close to 47 trips? One or two extra trips cost nothing in the month you cross the line, and some riders group errands into one month for that reason. Your PRESTO account shows your taps, so you can see how many trips you have made.
