Canada Child Benefit (CCB) Calculator 2026-27

A family with one child under 6 and one aged 6 to 17, and an adjusted family net income of $70,000, would receive about $10,752 a year from July 2026 to June 2027. That works out to $896 a month. The maximum for those two children is $15,040.

How the CCB works

The Canada Child Benefit is a tax-free monthly payment for families with children under 18. The amount depends on your adjusted family net income, the number of children and their ages. It is recalculated every July from the previous year’s tax return, so file on time.

The maximum amounts

From July 2026 to June 2027 the maximum is $8,157 a year for each child under 6, or $679.75 a month. For each child aged 6 to 17 it is $6,883 a year, or $573.58 a month. Families with income at or below $38,237 get the full amount.

How income reduces the benefit

Above $38,237 the benefit falls. With one child, you lose 7% of income above that amount, up to $82,847. Two children mean 13.5%, three mean 19%, and four or more mean 23%. Above $82,847 a fixed amount and a lower rate apply. The calculator handles all of it.

Adjusted family net income

This is the net income of both spouses or partners from line 23600 of the tax return, adjusted for certain benefits and RDSP amounts. An RRSP deduction lowers net income, so a contribution can raise your CCB. Families near a threshold have one more reason to contribute.

Shared custody

When children live with you part of the time, each parent can get half of the amount, and both must apply. Enter the number of children who live with you full time. The estimate changes if a child is with you only half the time.

What is left out

The child disability benefit is not included. It is up to $3,480 a year for each child with the disability tax credit. Provincial programs, such as the Ontario Child Benefit, are separate. Payments arrive around the 20th of each month.

Filing, eligibility and newcomers

Both spouses must file a tax return every year, even with no income, so the CRA can work out your family income. A late return can stop payments. Tell the CRA when your marital status, address or number of children changes, since each change can alter your payment from the next month.

A parent who recently arrived in Canada may qualify once they become a resident for tax purposes. The CRA usually asks for proof of your arrival date and status. Payments can be backdated up to 11 months after you apply, so apply as soon as you are eligible.

Toronto and Ontario families

Ontario adds its own child benefit for low-income families, paid together with the federal one when both apply. In Toronto, where child care and rent are high, the monthly amount can cover part of a daycare fee. Treat it as a fixed item in your budget.
